Green Tea and Weight Loss

Every human being on this planet wishes to look smart and maintain optimum weight level in order to look attractive. People use different methods to reduce weight. Some of the methods make use of natural products while others rely on non natural products.

One of the natural products used for weight loss is green tea. It is believed that green tea was discovered in China around 5000 years ago. It is the composition of the green tea that makes it a natural weight loss choice. Green tea helps loss weight in the following manner:

Green tea burns fat that enters our body when we eat food and is synthesized into a substance known as triglyceride in the liver and small intestine. Triglyceride is the source of energy and is necessary for life and physical activities. The problem occurs when there is excess amount of the substance and it turns into fat which leads to overweight and in some cases obesity. It is here that green teas come into picture. It has high amounts of polyphenols which activate the enzyme that is responsible for dissolving the excess triglyceride. When green tea is used in the long run it effectively helps in burning fat.

Green tea also contains antioxidants called catechin polyphenols, one of them epigallocatechin gallate or EGCG for abbreviation has been found to stimulate the metabolism and accelerate weight loss. EGCG along with caffeine stimulates the central nervous system and causes fat to be released in the blood stream which is then used as fuel. The process of burning fat to be used as energy is known as thermogenesis. It is the source of extra energy and helps the body to burn fat.

Although caffeine itself can stimulate the metabolism, researchers have found that the combined ingredients of green teas are more effective at this process.

It has also been found that green tea can help exercise for longer time. The catechin polyphenols in green tea appear to stimulate the use of fatty acids by liver and muscle cells. This reduces the rate at which carbohydrates are consumed and allows for more endurance and longer exercise times.

It has also been noted that green tea may also help suppress one’s appetite. This means an individual wants less food to eat.

While green tea is natures weight loss drug it cannot effectively work on its own. To achieve better results one should also control his or her diet and do regular exercise. Abnormal intake of food or gaps within exercise can have negative affects and desired results shall not be achieved.
